Background
A few years ago, I registered a domain that I've been sitting on. It's not connected to anything. Nobody ever had it previously. I think it's a clever domain that I can probably drive traffic to, but that I probably wouldn't feel like maintaining myself long term.
Thus, my intention is building a site to demonstrate the traffic potential and then putting the domain up for sale (including the site itself).
What I'm Looking For
I'm looking for suggestions on where to host the site, with following requirements:
- Free host.
- Truly free, i.e., the service doesn't post ads on free sites.
- Custom domain supported as part of free tier.
- It will be only a simple static site.
- Terms of service allows transferring ownership of site.
I currently use GitHub Pages for my personal website and several project sites. I think that might meet my needs, except I'm unsure of that last requirement. I know a repository can be transferred, but haven't dug into fine print on whether there's any issues if a repository is transferred as part of a domain sale. I'd also prefer to host it not within an account on a service I regularly use to keep it completely separate. So, for that reason, I'd prefer something other than GitHub Pages.
Suggestions?
So, what hosting service do you recommend for this purpose and why?
